History of PAM-Rwanda

The PAM Rwanda chapter was formed on April 23, 2015 with its first National Governing Council being established. A Consultative Council composed of different commissions was subsequently created to propel forward the work of PAM in Rwanda. Several branches have since been opened in schools particularly targeting university students. The main purpose was to re-ignite the Pan Africanist spirit based on a pragmatic unifying ideology. The PAM ideology should be accompanied by a culture of work and self-reliance. It should be a PAM that gives hope and a bright tangible future. The main thrust of this pragmatism is premised on the need to make PAM an organisation that creates incentives to make PAM motivational and entrepreneurial. The new PAM Rwanda should focus on changing the thinking and actions of citizens. It should be a movement that does and says things that appeal to people. PAM should resonate with peoples’ lives

Goal

Our goal is to have all Rwandans sensitized and conscientised into Pan African values, coordinated by a PAM Rwanda chapter with self-funding capability and institutional structures that are commensurate with the African Union Agenda 2063 and the 10-year Implementation Plan.

Vision

 PAM Rwanda Chapter envisions a more dignified, prosperous and peaceful Rwanda integrated into Africa and driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena”.

Mission

PAM Rwanda Chapter’s mission is to transform Rwandans’ mind-sets and institutions to reflect the continental Agenda 20636

Core Values

 Guiding principles or core values are defined as inviolable commitments that express “who we are as an organization” and what principles or qualities should infuse all practices and activities within the organization. The nature and implicit values of PAM Rwanda are supported by five fundamental core values:

- Equality of people:

We are committed to fair access to opportunities and respect for all human beings regardless of any background.

- Ideological independence:

We are committed to pursue a way of thinking and doing things aimed at decolonizing our minds.

Unity of purpose:

We are committed to come together in identifying, negotiating and resolving differences and taking advantage of opportunities for mutual gain;

- Pro-people:

We are committed to being solution providers based on people centred development;

- Self-reliance and Patriotism:

We are committed to developing an innovative transformative mind-set based on individual and national strengths and accomplishments, love of country and desire for improvement.

Key Activities of PAM-Rwanda

The key activities of the Pan African Movement-Rwanda are:

  1. Promote and disseminate Pan Africanism ideology in various institutions and communities in Rwanda;
  2. Building collaborative networks that promote governance and development innovations that best mobilize African assets to solve specific African challenges;
  3. Carrying out Awareness, Advocacy, Reporting and monitoring campaigns of the African Union instruments’ implementations in Rwanda;
  4. Promoting deeper integration among African States towards a politically united Africa.

PAM Rwanda Leadership and Management Structure Leadership

PAM Rwanda currently has a Patron, who is Rwanda’s Head of State. Below the Patron the National Assembly, Consultative Council and the Governance Councils respectively. The current Governance Council number of members corresponds to the number of Commissions established in 2015. As the organization grows and adapts to new demands and challenges, it will review its priorities and modify its Governance Structure accordingly. The Secretariat the Secretariat’s Management comprises a Bureau headed by a Chairperson and supported by a Vice-Chairperson, a Finance Commissioner and a Secretary.
